Collected Tanka Poems, April 2017

slogging
through the mud--
monday
morning
fuzz brain

  * * *

yesterday
my boy
on the drums--
first time
with a band

  * * *

an apple falls
from the branch to the ground--
tanka should fall
to the paper
just as easy
#tanka #5lines

read somone else's poem
write one of your own
read some more--
the give and take
of this written world

the entire
lunch break
i didn't look
at my phone--
strange

an evening
with an old friend--
i can hardly believe
it's been 16 years
since we first met
(Slint's Spiderland album)

while walking
and praying
i asked You to restore me--
the sudden downpour
made me feel clean again

poolside vacation
beautiful wife next to me getting sun,
me in the shade,
Jerry and the Dead
playing in my ears

driving off
with the boy
and his friend
nerf battle
at youth group tonight

lady
yelling from inside
her windshield
and wagging her middle finger
sure taught me a lesson

my friend needs help
at rehab
this waiting room
feels
like it's solid lead

adderall
has fucked
you up
i'll stay with you
while you get clean

yawning
i fill
a hot
mug
of coffee
